I got the impression to make this portrait one night holding my little one. I thought I was just capturing a moment of peace so I could remember what holding my baby feels like. Working on this for 10 hours turned into more of an emotional experience than I had anticipated. New things started to stand out to me. Like how I made that blanket in a sewing class with my mom and grandmother (who has now passed). The blanket feels like a symbol of motherhood through the generations. Holding her in the darkness became a reminder of the years of depression I've battled. Seeing the light from ahead reminds me of hope for the future and that peace and love can be found.
