Crazy Eyes, 16"x16", Digital Oil Painting, 2022

My son really needed some ping pong balls for a simple activity. Not having any on hand, I thought a visit to the local Dollar Store might be the best solution. Upon arriving, we were surrounded by ghosts, witches, and pumpkin. Halloween was upon us. The only ping pong balls around were were decorated to look like tired eyes. Once home, I unwrapped the eyes and was off throwing away the packaging when I hear him say, "Mom, look at this!" He rounds the corner looking like this saying, "look at my eyes."
This portrait was part of an effort to make a body of work meant to capture moments from my own life and my role as a mother that are significant to me. Looking back, I should have seen this silly moment coming, but I had other things on my mind. His is creative humor was just what I needed to remind me to slow down and laugh a little. A reminder I think we all need sometimes.

A time-lapse of all the marks and moments it took to make this portrait is available below. Enjoy!
